This Pastor-Author’s Thoughts on “Jesus Revolution”

My wife, Fawne, and I went to see “Jesus Revolution” last night (3/7/23) at a local theater. First of all, I’d like to say, that—for lack of a better word—I am a fan of Greg Laurie’s style and approach to preaching. That’s because he preaches the Word!—pure and simple. Every message of his I’ve heard so far is Scripture-based, Christ-centered, and edifying. As far as his movie “Jesus Revolution” is concerned, it had plenty of Scripture and Gospel truths sprinkled throughout. Both Fawne and I found it to be uplifting, informative, and thoroughly entertaining. It’s a good movie. But at the same time, it is what it is. The movie “Jesus Revolution” is a Christian bio-/docudrama whose overall focus is not so much on Jesus the Savior, but on the ones who were saved by His grace through faith during the hippie “Jesus Revolution” that took place during the late ’60s/early ’70s in America of which Laurie and his wife were a part. And so, if you’re searching for a good sermon saturated with God’s Word, then go to a local Spirit-filled, Bible-preaching church, or (if you’re currently home bound) watch one of Greg Laurie’s messages on YouTube. But if you’re looking for a good movie that you can take your whole family to and that holds the potential of possibly sowing a few gospel seeds in the hearts of its viewers, then by all means go and see “Jesus Revolution.” You won’t be disappointed. But, if you are already a firm believer in Jesus Christ, please, don’t miss out on an opportunity of true, divinely ordained worship just to go see it! A movie about someone else’s worship experience can never replace your own worship experience (see Hebrews 10:25; cf. Matthew 11:28–30).

To God be the Glory,
