“This God—his way is perfect; the promise of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all who take refuge in him.”
—Psalm 18:30 (NRSV).
One Autumn day, a woman was leisurely walking through a country meadow. As she strolled along, meditating on the wonders of God’s creation, she came across a patch of golden pumpkins. Near the patch was a huge, majestic oak.
The woman sat under the sprawling shade of the massive tree and began musing about the strange twists in nature—why tiny acorns grow on huge branches, and huge pumpkins on tiny vines. She thought, God must have made a mistake in creation! He obviously should have put the small acorns on the tiny vines and the large pumpkins on the huge branches.
Before long, the woman dozed off in the gray calm of the afternoon. She was awakened when a tiny acorn bounced off her nose. Chuckling to herself, she silently exclaimed, Thank God that wasn’t a pumpkin! Perhaps the Creator was right after all.
“This God”—the true One, who is the ONLY Creator and Redeemer—always is! In the beginning, HE created heaven and earth (see Genesis 1). As the Psalmist declares, “His way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30). It serves humanity well to remember: It doesn’t matter what we think, it only matters what God says! “Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the Lord have created it" (Isaiah 45:8 ESV).
